More than 30 years of research has demonstrated that outcomes for children with disabilities improve with (a) higher expectations, (b) increased access to the general curriculum, (c) stronger parent participation, (d) coordination of educational services with other community agencies, (e) inclusion of students with disabilities in school improvement efforts, and (f) high-quality, intensive professional development for all personnel who work with children with disabilities in order to address their learning needs. (IDEA, 2004: U.S. Senate Report 108-185, 2003) Participants will walk through the need for family partnerships and information to support the development of partnerships
